It’s pretty amazing the difference in perspective between children and adults. Take this picture, for example. I think, “oh, the dog from Target commercials… I need to go to Target… and buy a bunch of undesired but necessary things… and also pay bills.. and [drone on and on].”
This child looked at this dog and thought, “ooh, blank canvas.”

Funny, because I was just discussing how to tie ties last night… I can only successfully complete the half windsor knot. This diagram is just plain useful, right?
Inner Strength
If you can start the day without caffeine or pep pills,
If you can be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat the same food everyday and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when loved ones are too busy to give you time,
If you can overlook when people take things out on you when,
through no fault of yours, something goes wrong,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can face the world without lies and deceit,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without liquor,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,
If you can do all these things,
Then you are probably the family dog.

ZAMA SUSHI
When Yukes and I go out to dinner, it usually is a combination of fantastic conversation and great nom noms. In this case, it was all that, plus two appetizers, plus a 7 course tasting menu.
Note: When asking the server if this was common - for 2 girls to stroll in and casually have a 7 course tasting menu together - the server simply replied, “no… this basically never happens.” We probably could have predicted this from my question proposed to Yuki before we sat down: “Yukes, are we wrecking house tonight?” To which she answered with an obvious yes. We proceeded to consume the best sushi in Philadelphia.
I wouldn’t recommend ordering 2 appetizers in addition to the actual 7 courses, by the way. Yukes and I decided to do the tasting menu after we had already ordered the two appetizers. But hey, go big or go home, right?
ZAMA $55 Tasting Menu
1st course - Sunomono: seaweed salad with sashimi (light and fresh, perfect appetizer)
2nd course - Black Cod Saikyoyaki - MIso marinated black cod
3rd course - Hamachi Tataki - Seared Yellowtail over tempura avocado roll with red yuzu pepper sauce (everything about this was delicious)
4th course - Chef’s selection of nigiri: Zama selects from the fresh fish of the day (Was I ecstatic to finally find a place in Philadelphia with decent, fresh sushi? hai!)
5th course - Salmon Skin Hand Roll: Crispy salmon skin with jalapeno in a traditional hand roll (This one I didn’t love, although it wasn’t bad overall. The skin was just an odd texture, and a bit too salty for me)
6th Course - SST Hand Roll: Spicy shrimp tempura with eel wrappd in soy paper (I don’t fully understand what soy paper is, but it was intriguing and much tastier than the Salmon Skin)
Dessert - Mochi: Mochi fill with ice cream (DELICIOUS)

Overall, a super dinner with super company. It didn’t hurt that Yukes had met the chef via industry exchange previously. Super casual atmosphere, although the sushi bar had a lot of potentially awkward interactions with the servers. (Lots of potential for them to sneak up on you).
Loved it.

Not big on PDA. Unless we’re filming Love Actually 2: Love Really Actually For Real we don’t have to be that couple…
